Rugby: Vote for change defeated at NZ Rugby special general meeting
The voting results are in for the first proposal at NZ Rugby's special general meeting in Wellington on Thursday.
Proposal One has been defeated by a vote of 31-59.
Proposal One involves adopting most of the recommendations of last year's independent review of NZ Rugby known as The Pilkington Report, which found that the current constitution of the NZR board is not "fit for purpose".
It means reducing the influence of the provincial unions on NZR governance, making it essentially a vote for change.
Proposal Two involves the provincial unions retaining their three automatic seats on the NZR board, loosely making it a vote for change.
That vote will be cast shortly.
Last week, NZ Rugby players association said it would break away from NZR if Proposal One were not voted in.
