Kylian Mbappe on his way to Real Madrid: French striker confirms he will not extend his contract with PSG

Paris Saint Germain striker Kylian Mbappe on Friday confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with the French club.

In a video posted on his social media, Mbappe shared, “I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes and so I wanted to announce to you all that it’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. I will play my last game at Parc des Princes on Sunday.”

PSG were knocked out of the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund in the semifinal earlier this week after a 2-0 aggregate defeat to the Bundesliga club. The Parisians have already sealed the league title with 70 points from 31 games and will play Toulouse this Sunday.

“It’s a lot of emotion; many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club – one of the best in the world – which allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure; to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history – some of the greatest champions; to meet a lot of people, to grow as a man as well, with all the glory and the mistakes I’ve made,” Mbappe added.

World Cup winner with France, Mbappe had signed for PSG in 2017 after having made a name for himself at French club AS Monaco. During his stay in the French capital, Mbappe eclipsed Edinson Cavani to become PSG’s all-time leading goal scorer with 255 goals in 306 matches.

In his video, the striker confirmed he will leave his country for his next club. For months now, the reports of a possible transfer to his childhood favorite club – Real Madrid – have been surfacing. It isn’t the first time Mbappe has been linked to a transfer with the Spanish giants.

While Mbappe and Paris failed to make into the Champions League final, Dortmund will be facing Real Madrid in the summit clash at the Wembley Stadium next month with the latter having an opportunity to lift the title for a record 15th time.
