MI vs KKR IPL match: Kolkata Knight Riders have shocking record at Wankhede Stadium

MI vs KKR IPL match today: Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Mumbai Indians in an IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium with their playoff chances still in grasp. The two-time winners KKR are on second position in the IPL points table thanks to six wins in nine games, which sees them have 12 points (Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad also have 12 points but having played one additional game).

Besides this, what also works in the favour of the visiting team is the fact that the Mumbai franchise have been under-fire for their decision to elevate Hardik Pandya to captaincy over Rohit Sharma. Hardik has had a forgettable season so far.

Even if Mumbai Indians win all of their remaining games, they can only get to 16 points, which will leave them in the middle of the points table.

KKR’s record in Mumbai

However, there is one single stat that Kolkata fans will be very concerned by: KKR have recorded just one solitary victory at the Wankhede Stadium against Mumbai Indians. And even that victory came way back in 2012.

Mumbai also have a historically better head-to-head record against the Kolkata Knight Riders coming into the IPL match today. The Mumbai team has defeated KKR in 23 of the 32 games the two two teams have played against each other in the IPL with Kolkata winning just nine.

Besides this, Mumbai Indians also have a formidable record at home: in the 82 matches they have played at the Wankhede Stadium, they have won 50, while losing 31. One IPL match was tied.

For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah (14 wickets) and Gerald Coetzee (13) have been the best bets with the ball. But MI will need their batters to come to the party. Tilak Varma has been MI’s best batter with 343 runs in this season, including three fifties this IPL.
