Football: Wellington Phoenix strive for history with A-League premiership at stake against Macarthur FC

Post At: Apr 27/2024 03:20PM

Wellington Phoenix coach Giancarlo Italiano is still not risking a peek at the A-League Premiers Plate, as his team try to raise the silverware for the first time at Wellington.

The silverware is sideline at Sky Stadium, with the home team poised to win the competition's regular season - if they can defeat Macarthur FC and Central Coast Mariners lose to Newcastle Jets across the Tasman.

Italiano doesn't want to look upon the trophy until it is theirs to celebrate.

"I won't be seeing it, mate," he told Newshub's Harry Bartle. "I'm superstitious, I think it's bad luck, so it's best I don't see."

Italiano insists the title is Mariners' to lose and they have a game in hand to complete the job on Wednesday, if need be.
