Another day in IPL 2024 saw another clobbering masterclass from the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters, who posted the fourth highest total in IPL history against the Delhi Capitals.

SRH also have the highest-ever IPL total to their name – having scored 287 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this week. Prior to that game, the 2016 winners had scored the previous best total in the game against Mumbai Indians this season, when they mustered 277 runs to overtake RCB in the tally.

Ignited off to a fiery start by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, SRH finished on a high – after a relative slump in the middle overs – thanks to a first-ever IPL fifty for Shahbaz Ahmed.

Top-five highest totals in IPL history

Team Score Opponent Venue Season
SRH 287/3 RCB Bengaluru 2024
SRH 277/3 MI Hyderabad 2024
KKR 272/7 DC Visakhapatnam 2024
SRH 266/7 DC Delhi 2024
RCB 263/5 PWI Bengaluru 2013

Both Head and Abhishek combined together to stitch together the highest-ever total accumulated inside a powerplay by any team in T20 history, as SRH got to 125/0 at the end of the six-over mark. The onslaught saw SRH nail 24 boundaries off the 36 deliveries they played during the course of the powerplay – 13 fours, 11 sixes.

Top five-highest powerplay totals in IPL

Team Powerplay Score Opposition Year Venue
SRH 125/0 DC 2024 Delhi
KKR 105/0 RCB 2017 Bengaluru
CSK 100/2 PBKS 2014 Mumbai
CSK 90/0 MI 2015 Mumbai
KKR 88/1 DC 2024 Visakhapatnam

Crossing the 250-run mark for the third time in this season already, SRH levelled Surrey as the only two franchise T20 teams to have done so.

The Pat Cummins-led side closed the innings with 22 sixes, equalling their own record from earlier this week against RCB.

Most sixes (team) in an IPL innings

  • (22) SRH vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2024
  • (22) SRH vs DC, Delhi, 2024
  • (21) RCB vs PWI, Bengaluru, 2013
  • (20) RCB vs GL, Bengaluru, 2016
  • (20) DC vs GL, Delhi, 2017

For the Delhi Capitals’ bowlers, it was a nightmare evening. Off the six bowlers deployed by captain Rishabh Pant, three conceded more than fifty runs. Only RCB have had more bowlers leak fifty plus runs in an IPL innings – no coincidence against the same team in the same week.
