Defending champions Chennai Super Kings might miss the services of current Indian Premier League Purple Cap holder Mustafizur Rahman against Sunrisers Hyderabad, scheduled on Friday, according to reports.

The pacer who has taken 7 wickets so far in the league returned to Bangladesh to complete his visa process for the T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean.

“He has gone back home to complete visa formalities and will only be back after he gets his passport back. Tomorrow is the day when he applies for the visa,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, as quoted by PTI.

Chennai have played 3 matches in the league so far and won 2, with the only loss coming against Delhi Capitals last week.

The pacer has been on the forefront of CSK’s attack having taken 4 wickets in the IPL opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 while the other three coming against Gujarat Titans (2) and Delhi Capitals (1) respectively.

The T20 World Cup begins on June 1 and Bangladesh open their campaign against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 7. They play South Africa in New York on June 10 before moving to the Caribbean for their remaining two group games against Netherlands and Nepal.

Meanwhile, in CSK’s last match against DC, they were defeated by 20 runs. Chasing a 192-run target, CSK were rattled by pacers Khaleel Ahmed (2/21) and Mukesh Kumar (3/21), and ended up at 171 for six.

Ajinkya Rahane (45, 30b), Daryl Mitchell (34, 26b) and MS Dhoni (37 not out, 16b) tried their best but DC bowlers were on the money the night.

Earlier, strong fifties by captain Rishabh Pant and veteran opener David Warner led Delhi Capitals to 191 for five. Pant (51, 32 balls) and Warner (52, 35 balls) found good support from opener Prithvi Shaw (43, 27 balls). It was Pant’s first fifty in this IPL.
