In his stead, it was the Bangladeshi left-armer Mustafizur Rahman, who had been given a start against RCB and snapped four wickets in his first outing for the franchise. Given his instant impact and CSK’s reputation to not make a change unless necessary, it is unlikely that Pathirana starts come Tuesday.

Noor slots in for Spencer

Even though they ended up winning their first game, on another night, it could’ve as easily ended in the other side’s favor. Of the few points to mull over for Gujarat were the bowling figures of Spencer Johnson, who conceded as many as 25 runs from his two overs quota. Compound that with the fact that GT may as well need the surfaces of another spinner at the Chepauk turf and Noor Ahmad makes for a good pick instead of the 28-year-old Australian pacer.
