Sailing: Black Foils driver Peter Burling show Newshub's Mitch Redman around Amokura at SailGP Christchurch

Post At: Mar 22/2024 06:20AM

Newshub's Mitch Redman turned sailing geek, as he joined Black Foils driver Peter Burling aboard Amokura before the Christchurch leg of SailGP at Lyttelton.

America's Cup winner and Olympic gold medallist Burling is still chasing his first SailGP win on home waters, after his New Zealand team were stunned by fellow Kiwi Phil Robertson and his Canadian crew.

After missing the last leg of the series at Sydney on babywatch, he's determined to break that duck this weekend.

"Hopefully, it warms up a little bit more than what it is right now," Burling told AM. "Hopefully, the fog will burn off and the forecast for the weekend actually looks pretty amazing.

"It's blowing straight down the seawall like it was last year, and a nice breeze for foiling and going fast. The grandstand right next to the racecourse, lined up perfectly with the finish, makes it pretty epic here."
