Wasim Akram gets emotional watching the replay of ball boy celebrating the catch with Colin Munro in PSL

The most wholesome moment of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was a ball boy celebrating his catch with Islamabad United overseas player Colin Munro at the boundary line. The incident took place during the match between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.

Legendary Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram got emotional while watching the clips of that moment during the show The Pavilion on A Sport.

“You can see in the replay in the slow motion. When he took the catch the medical staffs sitting behind the boundary rope were also giving high fives to each other,” said Akram.

What was the incident?

During Peshawar Zalmi’s eight-run win over Islamabad United in Lahore, a ball-boy dropped an attempted catch as Aamer Jamal whipped Shadab Khan over midwicket for six. Colin Munro, fielding in the deep, was quick to put an arm around him and offered him tips on how to take the aerial catches.

A few balls later, the same ball-boy completed a difficult catch as Arif Yaqoob launched a six behind square leg off, and Munro, who was patrolling in that area, lifted the ball boy in the air in celebration.

Former West Indies fast bowler, Ian Bishop, while doing the commentary said: “That’s a six. And he has caught it. He got the coaching from Collin Munro a little bit earlier. This time the coaching has worked. It’s Munro down their again. Thank you very much, says the little ball boy.”

Akram’s memory

Wasim Akram shared his own memory as a youngster when he took autographs of all the Pakistan cricketers in Lahore, during their series against India in 1983.

“In 1983 India was touring Pakistan. Azeem (Hafeez) bhai took six wickets. Me along with my friends were sitting near the dressing. I had a small diary and I managed to get the autographs of all the cricketers,” shared Akram.

Islamabad United won the PSL after registering a two-wicket win over Multan Sultan in a thrilling final.
