Mayonnaise, a creamy and versatile condiment, has long been a staple in kitchens worldwide. From being a tasty dip to our fries to giving our salads a smooth base, mayo adds a delightful touch to various dishes. While commercial options adorn our shelves, health-conscious individuals are increasingly turning to homemade alternatives to escape potential long-term health concerns associated with store-bought varieties. Moreover, the rise of plant-based preferences and the surge in veganism have inspired chefs and food enthusiasts to reinvent the classic mayonnaise — creating eggless versions without compromising on texture or flavour.

The best part is that this eggless version of mayo is much healthier than its counterpart. According to Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, chief nutritionist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, choosing eggless mayo over egg-heavy varieties, people can proactively support better long-term wellness.

“Unlike egg-based spreads, eggless alternatives made with plant-based oils contain zero cholesterol and fit perfectly into vegan or restricted diets. In fact, the average eggless version also packs in added nutrients like vitamin E, iron and omega-3s for a well-rounded nutritional profile. At a time when heart health and sustainable eating take priority, switching to eggless mayo helps cut dietary cholesterol while still retaining moisture and flavour,” she said. However, Dr Rohatgi advises moderation when enjoying any spread.

If you’re looking to make this at home, celebrity chef Kunal Kapur shared an easy and creative recipe for eggless mayonnaise on Instagram, providing a healthier alternative for those seeking a plant-based option.
