The opulent wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant was a dazzling affair, characterized by extravagant displays of wealth and cultural heritage. The groom’s attire was particularly noteworthy, featuring a unique and historically significant piece of jewellery.

Anant Ambani made headlines by adorning the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan’s sarpech, or turban ornament, as a bajuband, or armlet. This exquisite piece, crafted with antique spinel, ruby, and diamonds, is part of Nita Ambani’s collection and was once auctioned for a staggering INR 4.14 crore. The sarpech’s intricate design and historical provenance added an unparalleled touch of grandeur to the groom’s ensemble.

Nita Ambani had attended the 71st Miss World pageant in Mumbai, in a classic black Banarasi sari adorned with intricate gold and zari motifs. Complementing the ensemble was a matching blouse, subtle makeup, and a simple black bindi. A pair of elegant earrings and a kada completed her understated yet refined look.

However, it was the unique repurposing of the historical piece that truly captivated attention. Ambani boldly transformed the Mughal-era kalgi, traditionally a turban ornament, into a striking bajuband, adding a regal touch to her overall appearance.

The kalgi, traditionally a headpiece, has deep roots in Mughal history and symbolizes royalty and honor. Anant’s choice to repurpose it as a bajuband showcased a creative and contemporary interpretation of this historical artifact. The Pachhikakaam technique used in the design further highlights the intricate craftsmanship and fusion of Indian and European jewelry-making traditions.

The wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant will undoubtedly be remembered for its lavishness and the unique cultural elements that were incorporated into the celebrations. The groom’s choice of jewellery, in particular, has sparked widespread interest and admiration for its historical significance and exquisite craftsmanship.
