The launch of Vantara

Anant Ambani launched Vantara, an ambitious project poised to become the world’s biggest zoo and animal rehabilitation center.

Sprawling across 3,000 acres within the green haven of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex, Vantara (meaning “Star of the Forest” in Hindi) goes beyond being a traditional zoo. This brainchild of Anant, backed by Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation, aspires to be a sanctuary for animals in need. Vantara focuses not just on housing rescued, injured, and endangered creatures, but also on providing comprehensive rehabilitation.

A star-studded start in Jamnagar

The festivities kicked off in the Ambani’s hometown, Jamnagar, Gujarat. 1,200 guests, including global icons like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Ivanka Trump, witnessed a three-day extravaganza.

Renowned artists like Rihanna and Diljit Dosanjh captivated the audience, while India’s top actors even shared the stage with the Ambani family.

A luxurious European cruise

In June, the celebrations took to the high seas! A select group of 800 guests, including celebrities and business tycoons, embarked on a luxurious cruise.

Imagine sailing through picturesque European destinations like Rome, Portofino, Genoa, and Cannes, all while being entertained by legendary performers like The Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry, and Andrea Bocelli.

The cruise journey offered scenic vistas, themed parties, and undoubtedly, a taste of unparalleled opulence.

Mumbai joins the celebration

The pre-wedding festivities continued in Mumbai during the first half of July, with stars like Justin Bieber taking the stage at events like the Mehendi and Sangeet, along with the rest of Bollywood.

The highly anticipated wedding ceremony will see Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant united according to Hindu customs. The ‘Shubh Vivah’ takes place on July 12, followed by the ‘Shubh Aashirwad’ on July 13. The grand finale, the ‘Mangal Utsav’ wedding reception, is scheduled for July 14.

A guest list for the ages

The upcoming nuptials of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are a star-studded affair attracting A-listers from across India and the globe. The guest list boasts political heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

Bollywood royalty will be well-represented with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and the younger generation of stars like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranbir Kapoor.

Adding an international touch are celebrities like the Kardashian sisters – Kim and Khloe – alongside action star John Cena, Latin music icon Luis Fonsi (Despacito fame), and singer Rema (known for the hit “Calm Down”).

How much have the Ambanis spent?

While the scale of the festivities is undoubtedly awe-inspiring, experts note that the Ambani family’s spending is a mere fraction of their wealth. Financial analysts like Nitin Chaudhary, founder of NC Financial Advisory Services, estimate that the Ambanis are dedicating “only 0.5% of their net worth” to the wedding, a stark contrast to the 5-15% typically spent by Indian families on such occasions.

Talking to the Economic Times, Chaudhary explained that a family with a net worth of Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 1 crore will not shy away from spending Rs 10-15 lakhs on their child’s wedding. “Similarly, a well-to-do family having a net worth of around Rs 10 crore would easily spend anywhere between Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 1.5 crore on a wedding. Considering that even the community which the family belongs to impacts the extravagance or simplicity of the wedding and the expenditure might vary.” Chaudhary said.
