Ever since World Cup champion Virat Kohli returned to India, and flew to London to spend time with family, the internet has been abuzz with reports of him permanently shifting to the United Kingdom. Amidst this pandemonium, King Kohli took to social media to give a peek into his new holiday home in Alibaug, nestled in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.

Giving his fans a tour of his abode — which is replete with modern-day amenities, including a large swimming pool — Kohli said: “It has a sense of community but at the same time, you have your privacy”, as he captioned the post, “The journey of building my Alibaug home has been a seamless experience, and seeing it all come together is truly gratifying”.

Talking about his favourite spot in the house, the cricketer shared, “I love the living space the most. Also, the access to the outdoors from the living space. Aesthetically done. It is exactly what I like about the natural light coming in. It is very subtle and classy. The space allows you to unwind and not worry about anything else.”

While regular homes are designed for daily living and routine activities, holiday homes offer a more relaxing and intimate setting, said Sandeep Ahuja, CEO, Atmosphere Living. According to him, there is a growing demand for these properties, whether it’s a beachside villa in Goa or a cozy mountain cabin in the Himalayas. “Holiday homes are becoming the go-to choice. These properties provide a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, offering a peaceful retreat where one can rejuvenate in a space that is a ‘home away from home’,” said Ahuja.

The role of natural light

Natural light plays a pivotal role in a holistic, sustainable home. “Projects built with sustainability in mind are being preferred over conventional developments,” said Amit Jain, chairman and managing director, Arkade Group.

“From land orientation to building a structure, residential and commercial complexes are designed in such a way that each apartment or floor gets adequate natural light and ventilation. The goal is to minimise energy consumption, thereby reducing the project’s overall carbon footprint throughout its lifetime as an ESG (environment, social governance) commitment,” said Jain.

Natural light has numerous benefits for the physical and mental well-being of the occupant, too. Jain shared that it is known to reduce stress and improve mental health. “With natural light, the use of electricity is significantly reduced, especially on higher floors where it is generally windy. With rising electricity costs, natural light and ventilation help limit the overall monthly electricity cost across seasons. From a supply-and-demand lens, homes with natural light and ventilation have a higher preferential value among homebuyers, resulting in quick sales,” said Jain.
