Can waking up 45 minutes before sunrise help in naturally detoxing your body? Here’s what the expert says

Waking up before the sun peeks over the horizon is not just about soaking in the morning calm. According to some, it’s a practice to spur your body into a natural detox mode.

Dr Dimple Jangda shared a video on her Instagram page: “If you wake up 45 minutes before sunrise and sit upright even if you’re not doing anything, just close your eyes and sit upright. Sitting upright allows the body to eliminate waste. That itself would create natural bowel movements.”

But is there any science to back it?

Chirag Barjatya, Founder of PFC Club said, “There is no scientific evidence that you have to wake up 45 minutes before sunrise. While we do have a circadian rhythm, it doesn’t specify that we need to wake up at any specific time. “Detox” is a popular word in the world of health, beauty, and wellness. The idea is that from time to time, we need to clear the “toxic waste” from our bodies to stay healthy. However, there is no scientific evidence to support this notion.”

Unless you have a serious medical condition, your body is a well-developed system with its own built-in ability to detoxify and remove waste and toxins. It constantly filters out, breaks down, and excretes toxins and waste products like alcohol, medications, products of digestion, dead cells, chemicals from pollution, and bacteria.

Therefore, we don’t need to sit in any specific posture for body detoxification, Barjatya mentioned.

He said that there is no evidence that waking up at a specific time impacts the detoxification process, saying mounting research demonstrates a significant negative impact of circadian disruption on human health.

Shift work, chronic jet lag, and sleep disturbances are associated with an increased incidence of metabolic syndrome, which consequently results in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemia, added Barjatya.

There are no specific lifestyle or dietary recommendations to enhance the waste elimination process in the morning. However, there are several things we can do to support liver health, which is the main organ for detoxification. These include eating sugar and saturated fats in limited quantities and consuming more fibre, recommended Barjatya
