A new cosmetic procedure — the Profhilo injectable treatment — has taken the beauty industry by storm. Commonly known as the ‘injectable moisturiser,’ this treatment has gained popularity among those seeking a more youthful, radiant, and rejuvenated appearance without the need for invasive procedures. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that aim to fill wrinkles and add volume, Profhilo takes a unique approach by hydrating the skin from within.

What is the Profhilo injectable treatment?

Dr Monica Kapoor, a celebrity cosmetologist and director of Flawless Cosmetic Clinic and ILACAD Institute, explains, “Profhilo is an innovative injectable treatment aimed at improving skin hydration, elasticity, and overall texture. It differs from dermal fillers, which add volume and shape to specific facial areas, and Botox, which relaxes muscles to reduce wrinkles.”

Profhilo works by delivering a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, stimulating collagen and elastin production throughout the skin. Kapoor emphasises, “This enhances the skin’s appearance in a general way, without altering facial contours or expression. Unlike fillers and Botox, Profhilo spreads evenly under the skin, promoting a natural and youthful look. Treatment typically involves two sessions a month apart with minimal injection points.”

Made from hyaluronic acid, Profhilo deeply hydrates the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This combination enhances skin elasticity and firmness, effectively addressing sagging skin and fine lines for a smoother, rejuvenated look.

Kapoor says, “Unlike traditional fillers, Profhilo spreads evenly under the skin, providing a natural and plumping effect without altering facial contours. Patients typically see noticeable improvements in skin texture and tone within a few weeks.”

Typical process for a Profhilo treatment session

Kapoor details the Profhilo treatment procedure:

Pre-treatment preparation: The skin is cleaned to remove makeup and dirt. If needed, a numbing cream can be applied to reduce any discomfort from the injections.

Procedure: The practitioner injects Profhilo into specific points on the face using a fine needle. This takes around 30 minutes.

Post-treatment care: After the procedure, it’s best to avoid touching the treated area. Heavy exercise, extreme temperatures, and alcohol should be avoided in the next 24 hours. Some redness, swelling, or bruising might occur but it usually fades within a few days.

A follow-up session is typically scheduled in four weeks, and for ongoing benefits, maintenance treatments are advised every six to 12 months.

Potential side effects or risks associated with Profhilo

Profhilo is a skin treatment using high-concentration hyaluronic acid to enhance hydration and firmness.

“Common side effects include temporary swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites, typically resolving in a few days. Rare complications may involve infections or allergic reactions,” cautions Kapoor.

According to Kapoor, the ideal candidates are adults over 30 experiencing skin laxity or early ageing signs who want a natural enhancement in skin texture and elasticity without adding volume. “It’s suitable for healthy men and women but not recommended for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have severe allergies to hyaluronic acid or autoimmune conditions,” she says.
