Actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee, best known for playing the role of ‘Gopi Bahu’ in the once-popular show Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, is a self-confessed tattoo aficionado. So, we were not surprised when she told us that she already has five tattoos and recently got her sixth one — the word ‘Mahadev’ on her right forearm. “I love tattoos. I love having tattoos on my body; something I plan to continue getting until my last breath. I feel very connected to tattoos,” Bhattacharjee told indianexpress.com.

Ask her about the latest addition, and the actor said adding a “spiritual touch” to her tattoo was an obvious choice. “One can connect with Mahadev. I did not want to go for a sculptural form of Lord Shiva. I feel that I am a devoted follower or yogini of Lord Shiva. I have a strong belief and faith in him since childhood,” shared Bhattacharjee.

Her other tattoos include one on each side of her hips: ‘free spirit’ and lotus flower; on her leg, infinity symbol with the words faith and family on her nape, and a stylish Om symbol on her left hand.

Inspired by her “profound connection” with Lord Shiva, the latest ‘Mahadev’ tattoo features elements such as the trishul, the third eye, and the damru adorned with the Om symbol.

Sharing details, Bhattacharjee said that she did not want an explicit mention or portrayal of Mahadev. “I have been ideating this (design) for the past 3-4 years with help from all kinds of material available on the internet. I wanted to get something with which I really could connect — something simple and symbolic that would convey the meaning despite not having a drawing of Lord Shiva. So, we opted for the symbols that are associated with Lord Shiva.”

The tattoo has been designed by celebrity tattoo artist Vikas Malani of BodyCanvas Tattoos.

Talking about her long-standing association with Malani, Bhattacharjee said, “I am really grateful to Vikas, who I have known for the past 12-13 years. In fact, all my six tattoos are made by him. You just give him a vision of what you want and he makes it so beautifully and so much better than what you had in mind.”
