When Rashmika Mandanna spoke about facing rejections: ‘I somehow couldn’t take it…’

Rejections are hard, no doubt. But, it could give some of the biggest life lessons. At least that’s how Rashmika Mandanna feels about rejections.

A snippet from a year-old interview of Mandanna with Galatta Plus’ Baradwaj Rangan, posted by content creator Himanshu Verma on his platform LearnwithHeman is trending on YouTube shorts, showed Mandanna recalling the time she got rejected for not having the ‘face of an actor’.

“I remember getting rejected so many times. And somehow, I couldn’t take it. So, I gave about 20-25 auditions and I got rejected in most of them saying you don’t have the face of an actor,” said the Animal actor.

“I would come back home and I would sit and cry. After that, there was this other film for which I auditioned for the last time and I ended up getting it. We went for training for that film. However, sadly, after training 2-3 months for that film, it never took off,” she added.

How to deal with rejections?

“Experiencing failings and rejections is a part and parcel of life. Dealing with them and coping in a manner that ensures the continued integrity of the self is critical,” expressed Kamna Chibber, clinical psychologist, Apollo Hospitals.

Chibber listed the following guide that can help

*Change your perspective and understand that rejection is simply about a lack of fit.
*Don’t personalise and allow the experience to become overpowering where you develop judgments about yourself. Understand that this in no way is a holistic view of your talent and achievements.
*Take a wholesome view by utilising feedback and inputs you’ve received from others over the years.
*Trust in what you know about yourself and your strengths.
*Instead of being preoccupied with being rejected try and understand what you could have done differently.
*Focus on the other positive experiences you’ve had.

*Use this as an experience to learn and grow.
*Take the support of friends and family and ensure you share your thoughts and emotions so they can give you a corrective experience about the way you are viewing things.
