Samantha Ruth Prabhu gave sustainable fashion a whole new meaning at the Elle Sustainability Awards on Thursday night. Her stunning black, strapless gown wasn’t just any dress – it was actually her wedding gown from 2017, completely transformed!

For her Christian wedding wedding ceremony with Ye Maaya Chesave co-star Naga Chaitan, Samantha had worn the white, off-shoulder gown, which had a full, flowy skirt at the time.

Designer Kresha Bajaj, who created the original gown, worked her magic again. Detailing Samantha’s dress, she told indianexpress.com, “it was a sculptural gown created with a cutwork corset, layers of French tulle and embellished with 3D florals.”

Samantha, who won a sustainability award that evening, also shared black and white photos flaunting the revamped gown. The dress now featured a stunning beaded bodice and a draped skirt. She accessorised with a matching choker and rings, keeping her hairstyle simple with loose waves.

On Instagram, the designer shared a video showing the incredible makeover process. We see the white gown from 2016 getting embellished with intricate floral and crystal details. Years later, for the awards night, the dress underwent a dramatic change. It was dyed a chic black and the silhouette was altered.

Bajaj simply captioned the video, expressing her joy at collaborating with the actor to create a new memory and tell a fresh story. She emphasised the timeless nature of beauty and its ability to transform. Many fans were quick to recognise the repurposed wedding gown, thanks to the detailed video.

In her post, Samantha stressed the importance of sustainability. She urged everyone to take action, big or small, because every effort counts in preserving our planet. She mentioned that repurposing clothes is just one of the steps she’s taking towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

For the uninitiated, Samantha wed Naga Chaitanya in a lavish 2017 Goa ceremony, complete with traditional pre-wedding festivities and both Christian and Hindu wedding rituals. However, their happily ever after wasn’t meant to be. The couple announced their separation via Instagram in 2021, shortly before their anniversary, and their divorce was finalised soon after.
