Move over Hollywood, there’s a new kind of beauty pageant in town, and it’s entirely computer-generated. The world’s first contest featuring artificially-generated women, “Miss AI,” has been announced. This competition aims to not only showcase advancements in AI technology but also reignite the classic beauty pageant format.

With a total prize pool of $20,000, Fanvue’s Miss AI will award creators who can develop the most visually appealing and socially influential virtual AI models. Sanda Bullock’s ‘Miss Congeniality’ may no longer be the only fake woman to crash a beauty pageant– though she remains our favourite.

According to reports, the AI models will be judged based on three key criteria: aesthetics, online presence, and the creator’s skill in utilising AI tools. Fanvue anticipates a flood of entries, and hopeful participants will need to submit both an AI-generated image and insightful answers to pageant staples like “world betterment goals.”

From thousands of hopefuls, the competition will be narrowed down to ten finalists, and then three AI models will emerge as winners. The grand prize winner will not only take home $5,000 but also receive access to a valuable mentorship program worth $3,000.

Interestingly, the judging panel itself boasts a unique mix. Two of the four judges are actually AI models themselves – Aitana Lopez and Emily Pelligrini, known for their lucrative “modelling” careers for brands like Victoria’s Secret. However, the ultimate decision-making power rests with the creators behind these virtual contestants.

Rounding out the panel are human experts: Britain’s pageant historian Sally-Ann Fawcett and Andrew Bloch, PR advisor to Lord Sugar. While the AI models will be assessed on “beauty and poise,” the classic “talent” portion will be handled by their creators, focusing on their technical skills and how well they’ve used AI tools. Specific attention will be paid to areas like hands and eyes, which can sometimes pose challenges for image generators.

Social media savvy also plays a role. Entrants will be evaluated on their online influence, with points awarded based on follower count and audience engagement.

Will Monanage, co-founder of Fanvue, sees this event as a potential launchpad for the AI creator industry. While talking to Mail Online, he highlighted the booming “creator economy” and how Fanvue’s platform empowers AI creators to build a fanbase and monetise their content. It should be noted that Fanvue allows creators to generate revenue through paywalled content, often geared towards mature audiences.

Whether Miss AI represents a futuristic leap or is dragging beauty conversations back decades is a matter of perspective. One thing’s for sure: it’s a unique competition that pushes the boundaries of both beauty pageantry and AI technology.
