Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli passed away after a prolonged illness at the age of 83 years. His eponymous fashion brand has announced the news on Instagram with a note. “It is with great sadness that today we say our final goodbyes to our founder Roberto Cavalli. From humble beginnings in Florence Roberto succeeded in becoming a globally recognised name loved and respected by all. Naturally talented and creative, Roberto believed that everyone can discover and nurture the artist within themselves. Indian designers share heartfelt tributes

When fashion designer Gautam Gupta started his career in 2003, he started following Cavalli’s work. Gupta, who was doing more of Indian wear and handlooms, “learned more about his work, prints and out-of-box thinking”. “I consider myself grateful to see the genius’s work when it was launched in India. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank him for inspiring a younger me to move out of the comfort zone,” Gupta told indianexpress.com.

Fashion designer Nida Mahmood called him “legendary”. “Cavalli created a unique space for himself in the world of fashion and design. His approach to design was bold and fearless. He was a visionary. He knew how to bring fine Italian traditional design with a strong hold on modern cuts and styles to make his work much sought after. His aesthetic is synonymous with luxury and glamour. I feel he leaves behind his legacy of design that will always be cherished,” said Mahmood.
