There is no comparison for DIY remedies — some of which have passed down generations  — that are made using natural and seasonal ingredients. So, it is not surprising that they are not just popular among you and us, but also some celebrities. One such celeb is actor and singer Saba Azad, who recently opened up about her breakfast smoothie which, she admits, is “really good for hair, too”. “It is not just a tasty breakfast smoothie but good for your hair as well,” said Saba, in a throwback video with Tweak India.

Keeping in mind her long, beautiful locks, we decided to dive deep into the ingredients used in this smoothie, only for you.

How to make the smoothie?

Ingredients

Beetroot
Orange
Ginger
Amla
Banana

Method

*Blend all of the ingredients.
*Drink.

But how effective is this smoothie?

Thanks to the many chemicals and pollutants we are exposed to, hair loss alopecia — a dermatological condition affecting both men and women — has become common today. Caused by many factors, from nutritional deficiency to autoimmune diseases, experts suggest it can affect self-esteem.

So, can this smoothie help in any way? Answering in the affirmative, Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist and cosmetologist, Shareefa’s Skin Care Clinic said it is a good recipe for healthy skin and hair growth.

Dr Chause detailed the benefits of each of the ingredients, listed by Saba.

*Beetroot is a good source of minerals, fibre, and bioactive components. It also has vitamins E and C, which help in strengthening hair follicles.
*Oranges are a rich source of vitamin C, which helps in collagen production and also strengthens hair follicles.
*Ginger helps to improve blood circulation to the hair and also has hair growth-promoting properties
*Amla or Indian gooseberry aids hair growth.
*Banana is a rich source of potassium which helps in cell renewal and regrowth of hair.

While all these ingredients do help your hair and skin, and you can take them “every day in breakfast”, Dr Chausa recommended taking carrots instead of bananas if you have stomach issues such as acidity or bloating. “Many feel some sort of stomach discomfort when combining oranges with bananas. So, carrots are a better option instead of bananas,” said Dr Chausa.
