1/2tsp – Black pepper powder
1/2 tsp – Amchur powder or dry mango powder

Is it a power-packed recipe for breakfast?

This recipe, using grated coconut, apples, pomegranates, lemon juice, black pepper powder, and amchur, is curated specially for the gut, said Shivani Bajwa, functional medicine and health expert.

Let’s understand the ingredients and their nutritional content

*Coconuts are rich in protein, fibre, and essential minerals like iron, manganese, copper, and magnesium necessary for various bodily functions like collage production, blood sugar control, and metabolism. “It is also low in sugar and its high-fat content does not reduce its nutritious value because it is plant-based,” said Bajwa.

*Apples are rich in soluble fibre, antioxidants, and minerals like potassium and vitamins. Bajwa elucidated that pectin, a protein that acts as a prebiotic feeds the good bacteria in the gut microbiome, relieving constipation and lowering the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol in blood.

*Pomegranates are healthy for consumption because of their high content of vitamin C and iron. Bajwa said that they are especially good for anaemic patients as they restore haemoglobin levels.

*To garnish this cosmopolitan salad, spices like lemon juice (rich in vitamin C), black pepper (contains piperine, an anti-inflammatory compound) and amchur powder (full of vitamins A, B6, C, and D) are extremely effective because they aid in digestion, nutrient absorption, and blood circulation, while also flushing out toxins. They boost kidney health and keep heart diseases at bay, added Bajwa.
