5 reasons to have homemade sattu this summer (with recipe)

One of the most common foods is sattu or black chickpeas, known to be a nutritional powerhouse. Ingredients

Black chickpeas, soaked

Method

*To make sattu at home, all you need is black chickpeas. Thoroughly wash the black chickpeas and soak them in water overnight. Drain the water from the soaked chickpeas the next morning.
*Spread them evenly on a clean cloth and allow them to sun dry for 2-3 hours.
*Ensure they retain some moisture. Once partially dried, transfer the chickpeas to a pan and dry roast them over low to medium heat for about 10 minutes, until they become crispy and fragrant. Stir occasionally for even roasting.
*After that, allow the roasted chickpeas to cool down to room temperature. Then, transfer them to a blender and grind them into a fine powder. This is ready to be used.

“You can also store the freshly ground sattu powder in an airtight container to preserve its freshness and flavour,” said Nupuur.

Sattu serves as a potent source of vitamins and minerals crucial for immune function, including vitamin C, iron, and zinc. “These nutrients play pivotal roles in bolstering the body’s defense mechanisms, fortifying resilience against seasonal illnesses and infections,” said Dr Rohini Patil, nutritionist founder of Nutracy Lifestyle.

Digestive health

The high fibre content in sattu aids digestion promotes regular bowel movements and prevents digestive issues such as constipation. “It also helps in maintaining a healthy gut microbiome,” said Nupuur.
