Golden Globes 2024: The red carpet hits and questionable style selections

Post At: Jan 08/2024 01:20PM

As you've likely seen across your social media feeds, the Golden Globe Awards are underway in Tinseltown, marking a triumphant return to the red carpet after the months-long actors' and writers' strikes that defined 2023.

But with the strikes in the rearview mirror and a new year heralding a fresh start, it seems many of the guests have a refreshed enthusiasm for awards season - if today's looks are anything to go by.

The stars have been busy serving sartorial moments on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton in LA, with plenty of spangle, shimmer and suave suits to be seen. Many of the male attendees cut dapper figures, while the women dazzled in delightful colour - with red making a particular splash - or metallic sheens.

Many of the nominees have long received plaudits for their award ceremony style, such as Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Timothée Chalamet (Wonka) - making it a night to watch for couture enthusiasts and eagled-eyed trend tastemakers.

However, for every sartorial success, there is also usually a fashion flop - although this time they have admittedly been few and far between. See below for some of the Golden Globes' hits - and a few of the more questionable selections.

The 'love it or hate it'

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish's Willy Chavarria ensemble stood out among the sea of glittering gowns, but didn't quite give the glamour the Golden Globes are known for. Plus points for the slicked-back, spikey up-do.

Helen Mirren

Purple is the colour of royalty, and Dame Helen Mirren is certainly a Queen of the Silver Screen - but the Dolce & Gabbana dress and its matching opera coat looked a little dated.

Selena Gomez

While Selena fans will applaud the Only Murders in the Building star's every move, something about the Giorgio Armani dress didn't hit the right note. The busy bodice is over-complicated by the black tie around the waist, although the daring silhouette adds intrigue.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfriend's Giorgio Armani creation paid homage to the bow trend, but was a little lacklustre among the more eye-catching ensembles.
