AM host Lloyd Burr was ridiculed on Wednesday's episode for not being aware of iconic TV show The Love Boat.

He and co-hosts Amanda Gillies and Nicky Styris were discussing the news that P&O Cruises Australia is shutting down when the subject came up.

"What is The Love Boat?" Burr asked when it was brought up.

"What?" reacted Styris while Gillies sprang into a rendition of the show's theme song.

"What are you guys talking about? Is it a film or something?" Burr continued.

"Wow!" remarked Gillies, before briefly explaining what The Love Boat is.

Viewers were asked to email in response to Burr's ignorance.

"Can someone please hit Lloyd? How dare he be on television and not know one of the most iconic shows that guest starred many celebrities," said one in a note Gillies read out on air.

"I'm sorry but you can't shame me for my lack of intelligence," responded Burr, before adding: "We need young people on this show!"

Gillies, open-mouthed in shock, then fulfilled the viewer's request by pretending to slap Burr on the shoulder.
