James Blunt claims Carrie Fisher was 'mistreating her body' in attempt to be thin for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

British singer James Blunt claims Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher had been "mistreating her body" to lose weight for her iconic role in 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. 

The 'You're Beautiful' singer made the claim while discussing his memoir, Loosely Based on a Made-Up Story, at an event in the UK. 

He accused Star Wars' bosses of putting "pressure on her to be thin" for her return to the role in the sci-fi franchise. 

"I was with her the day before she died, when she came down to my house," he told audiences. 

"And she'd been really mistreating her body, and she'd just got the job again of being Princess Leia in a new Star Wars movie. 

"So, she was really on a high and a positive, but they had applied a lot of pressure on her to be thin. She spoke about the difficulties that women have in the industry, how men are allowed to grow old, and women are certainly not in film and TV. 

"And she really put a lot of pressure on herself, started using drugs again and by the time she got on the plane, she had effectively killed herself. 

"They say it was heart failure of some kind, but she had taken enough drugs to have a really good party." 

Fisher died in 2016 aged 60. A toxicology report found there was cocaine, heroin, MDMA and methadone in her system. 

Neither production company Lucasfilm or The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson have commented on Blunt's claims. 

Blunt and Fisher struck up a friendship after the two were introduced by mutual acquaintances. 

He moved into her house with Fisher's mother, Debbie Reynolds, ahead of his recording of the 2004 album Back to Bedlam.
