AM host Lloyd Burr "had no choice in the matter" of getting his face painted live on air after mocking co-host Melissa Chan-Green's former job as an entertainer.

Last week, Burr learned Chan-Green used to be a fairy hosting children's parties when she was 18 during a discussions about the worst jobs they have ever done.

On Monday, Chan-Green put her face painting skills to use in a competition with one of the show's makeup artists. Using Burr as a mannequin, the pair painted his face into a butterfly.

"Your side is very wonky," he said referring to Chan-Green's work when compared to the other.

"Excuse me I'm going to bling it up," Chan-Green explained, before Burr worried that he was "getting bejazzled".

When asked why he had subjected himself to the artwork, Burr joked: "I had no choice in the matter."

"Hopefully you don't have a job interview today," Chan-Green joked.

"I think the thing we can learn from this this morning is I just get in quick and do things fast and I don't have patience," she added, revealing she'd made up to $100 per hour as the children's entertainer.

"Where you let yourself down, Mel, was the lips," newsreader Nicky Styris said.
